We are in a business centered on values reinforcement. People frequently use the term "ethics" in the workplace but not so much "values". So why values instead of ethics?
Ethics deals with understanding what the right thing to do is in specific situations.
Values have to do with what guides us when we make choices about what we think is right or wrong. Values are those principles for living that we take seriously enough to practice. Although we usually think of values as positive principles such as integrity, fairness, and caring; values can also be principles such as greed, materialism, and win at any cost.
We think of these character-building values as the practices that make us the best that we can be. Each of us has a standard by which to determine what that ‘best’ means. For some it is religion, for others it is family or society or the business or political group to which we belong. For many it is a combination of all of those. Gaining clarity and conviction about that standard is essential to making consistent moral choices.
