In her Salem Web Network column, Mary Katherine Ham tells about Bobby Jindal, elected governor of Louisiana in 2007. In a special state legislative session, one of the strongest ethics reform packages in the nation was adopted. Disclosure of all income for legislators, prohibition of legislators doing business with the state, disclosure of assets and income by lobbyists and limiting their spending to $50 per legislator on any meal all highlighted the practice of transparency. Jindal also led the legislature to make substantial tax changes to improve the state’s economy.
